The Not So Dirty Side of Pure Romance

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.

I sell Pure Romance products, the very best in beauty, bath and bedroom accessories that encourage intimacy, romance, enhanced sexuality and fun. Pure Romance, in my opinion, has the one-stop product selection for classy women who love to feel sexy, want to better know their bodies, and desire to heighten their relationships.

I am, as of recent, a Pure Romance Consultant. I, essentially, run my own mini Pure Romance business with my very own business email, website and bank account. I host in-home parties for women, free of charge, where I educate, entertain and empower them with knowledge about Pure Romances’ product selection. I’m a big girl now!

That’s the way I see it. But, lets face it, to most people… I sell dildos and am the pageant queen of lube.

The first question I always hear is “how in the world did you become a sex toy saleswoman?” and I confidently reply with the truth:

“I attended a pure romance party with a few of my girlfriends in Cincinnati at the beginning of Fall Quarter this year. Though I expected awkwardness, there were lots of giggles and an exchange of dialogue among my friends like I had never experienced before: we were openly, and comfortably, talking about men, our relationships, our confidence and ideas of sexuality. I walked in not fully aware of what Pure Romance was and walked out with about $65 worth of product. Shortly after, a little irritated with myself for being irresponsible with my money, I was tempted to return everything I bought… but after trying my new lotion, shower cream, lip gloss and other beauty products, I was not only confident in my purchases, I wanted to know more. Within two weeks I was a consultant and learning how to throw parties. It’s financially rewarding and my job is also truly enjoyable.”

No matter how charming and legitimate the story, however, I can sense that the woman asking is often only hearing “blah blah blah, awkwardness, blah blah blah, men, blah blah blah, sex, blah blah blah, salespitch, blah blah blah, weird sex toys.”

I might as well have a rubber penis super glued to my forehead.

With that penis on my forehead, I imagine you’re wondering what my boyfriend and parents must think.

Though at first a little shocked, my parents came to the realization that this job offered me immersive education behind some of the basics to being independent. They were supportive because of the sales process and all of the responsibilities I would soon undertake. Plus they admitted that sex sells and my chances for moderate success were evident. Consulting for Pure Romance is also relevant to my current career track, Public Relations, as I have to promote myself, and the product I’m selling, in order to make a profit. I have to manage the finances behind the operation, cultivate and distribute orders, plan and manage parties… the list only continues. Through and through, it’s a very professional job for an undergraduate sophomore.
And mon petit ami (my boyfriend) has been, though supportive, somewhat weirded out. A box of products for party demonstration and promotion currently sits in the middle of my bedroom floor, and every time he sees it his nose tends to squinch.

He said it himself,“This is all a little intimidating… you’re not planning on using much of it, are you?”

And I calmly responded,“Nah, I’m in this to have an income and to get to know people… not to buy out Pure Romance’s stock.”
