The Fight of the Flirty Girl- Men’s Hair

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Le Moyne chapter.

There are some theories of human interaction that claim that when people talk to each other, they tend to look at the other person’s surrounding facial features, such as hair. For most girls, hair is an essential element to the everyday get-up. For guys, it’s not as important. Or is it?

Maybe it’s just my analytical mind at work, but I think that guys care a bit more about their hair than they let on. For girls in relationships, we know this for a fact. Never will you hear more questions about hair style than from your boyfriend. If guys really do care about their hair, their overly ambitious attempt to be manly prevents them from ever sharing their hair-related concerns. If they have a trustworthy girlfriend, the walls come down and the need for approval arises.

So how much say should we, the girlfriends, have over a man’s “new-do?” If hair is as essential as we make it out to be, having the right cut is important. Without make-up, facelifts, and waxing, most guys have limited resources to help create their look. Being supportive is an important aspect of being in a relationship. Be honest. If you dig the shaggy look, say so. If his heads starts to resemble the mane of a lion, maybe it’s time for a trim.

It’s also important to let your man express himself. Hair can be a good outlet for self expression, especially if he’s into blue highlights or mohawks. But when he asks for your opinion, you should give it. You know what looks good for him and he’s bound to trust your opinion more than anyone else’s.

Long hair on guys can be hot. Short hair can have a sexy style. I’ve never been a fan of buzz cuts, they strike me either as overly professional or oddly childish. It all depends on the guy and his personal style. As the girlfriends, we have to provide encouragement and support when it comes to his physical appearance. We still love him for who he is, but sometimes it doesn’t hurt to spruce him up and show him off.
