Adios, Coach Callaway

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UAB chapter.

The hashtag #freeuab had never seen more action than it did Sunday morning when word got out that UAB football Coach Neil Callaway was gone.  The final straw came after UAB’s disheartening 38-35 loss to Florida-Atlantic Saturday afternoon.  After five seasons with the school, Coach Callaway leaves behind a less than impressive 18-42 record and a lot of upset Blazer fans.  Recently, UAB has been making waves in the media for the Free UAB movement started by students petitioning for an on-campus stadium.  After the Board of Trustees shot down the proposed plan, students united together to give UAB the voice it deserves to have on the board.  The decision to get rid of Callaway is a great start in the right direction for the Free UAB movement.  “Getting rid of Callaway was the the first step,” states UAB junior Andrew Vines. “We’ve got to have a coach that wins.  One of the things the board wants to see is more support, so in order for that to happen you’ve got to have a winning coach.”  So the big mystery comes down to who’s it going to be?
