Christmas Gifts for your Guy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Vic chapter.

Whether you just started dating or are in a serious relationship holiday shopping can be stressful. To help ease the stress of holiday shopping I visited Best Buy (www.bestbuy.ca) and Moores Clothing for Men (www.mooresclothing.com) to see what gifts you should give your guy this season.

Best Buy Uptown employee and UVic student Bill Xiong knows a thing or two about technology. Xiong showed me the latest in headphone technology. He believes that shoppers can’t go wrong with giving good quality headphones. From simple in-ear headphones to high quality DJ headphones, Best Buy carries the latest products for reasonable, non-commissioned prices.

The bestselling headphones are the Beats by Dr. Dre Solo HD which sell for $199. Lady Gaga and Justin Beiber endorse the brand, so you can personalize your purchase based on your guy’s listening styles. The Beats have a high cool appeal and will make listeners feel like a professional DJ.

For ladies on a budget, accessories for phones or gadgets are the best options, according to Xiong. Invisible Shields or Otter Boxes make a phone practically indestructible, and Xiong demonstrated this to me by throwing his brand new iPhone down the store’s aisle!

The best gift in the store, according to Xiong, is the newest in tablet technology: the iPad 2. “You can’t really go wrong with an iPad,” said Xiong.  The beautiful tablets start at $519 and are a great gift for the gamer on your list.

Clothing can be a good gift idea for your man this season. I asked Bruce Smith, store manager at Moores Clothing for Men in Uptown Shopping Centre, why clothing is an important gift for girls to buy guys.

“Generally speaking men will not go out and shop for themselves,” said Smith. “Buying something formal will force them to dress sharp, the way you want them to look.”

The gift of clothes may not be the most personal gift, but it shows that you care that your guy looks good with today’s trends. For university men Smith recommends slim fit clothing, a current trend.

Whether you choose to give your sweetie gadgets or clothing for Christmas with a little thought about his personality and style you should be on your way to the perfect holiday gift.
