UWO USC

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Western chapter.

Responsible for providing you with the late night shuttle service, The Spoke and Play with Puppies Day, the University Student’ Council at UWO plays major part in all of our lives. Even though we may not be aware of it, the USC is responsible for many events, organizations and services on campus. So, how much do you know about our USC?

First off, let’s meet the people in charge. The President of USC is Andrew Forgione and working with him are Nicole D’Alessandro (VP Student Events), Patrick Searie (VP University Affairs), Marissa Joffre (VP Campus Issues), Jennifer Valadao (VP Finance) and Eliot Hong (Communications Officer).

Recently, the USC compiled a survey for students to see how much they knew about the students’ council as well as other issues. I don’t know about you, but I wasn’t entirely sure of what services were provided by USC and which were privately owned. As well as Infosource and Inprint, the USC also runs The PurpleStore, Purple Door Promos, Western Film, The Spoke, The Wave and many other services available at UCC. The important thing to know is that when you shop or eat at these USC owned services, you are supporting student jobs and putting money back into other USC services and operations.

In addition to these operations, the USC is also responsible for the many services we get to enjoy as students. The newly introduced yearly bus pass, the student health plan, extra-curriculars, food support and purple bikes!

The USC plays a major part in our educational careers and affects us all in one way or another. Don’t take it for granted and make sure you’re aware about all the issues, services and operations. Better yet, get involved! Become a more active member of our school community and maybe you can make a difference and bring about a change.

Rida is a fourth year student at the University of Western Ontario and is extremely excited about the opportunity to bring Her Campus to London! She recently changed her major from Finance to English Literature after finally realizing what she wanted to do with her life. Having spent her whole life in the Middle East (Dubai and Saudi Arabia) Rida had no choice but to grow up a shopaholic! Having shifted from the desert to the great ice box that is Canada, she still finds it difficult to adjust to the freezing weather. In her spare time, Rida likes reading, watching way too many shows, stuffed crust pizza and,of course, shopping! Her aspirations are to one day live in Paris and be a writer for Vogue.
