New Year, New Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Columbia Chicago chapter.

Happy New Year! I know everybody wants this to be the best year ever for them, but does that include the best semester? If you are in school, you know a new year also includes a new semester. For me, this past semester was alright, but with it being my senior year, I want to end with a bang.

I’ve been thinking about some of the things I need to do to make this semester the best, and the first thing that came to my mind was priorities.

“Do what you have to do, so you can do what you want to do.” This quote came from the movie “The Great Debaters”. I remember when I first heard this in the movie, and it immediately spoke to me. I decided that quote will be my motivation for the semester.

Being at Columbia and in Chicago, there is always something to do and get involved in so sometimes it can be hard to prioritize when Chicago Fashion Focus (Chicago’s Fashion Week) is going on, and of course, it’s during the week you have school.

But the quote makes me realize that when you get the important things out of the way and realize you have time on your hands, then you can do what you want to do. I know it’s going to take myself a while to actually get down what I am preaching, but I am willing to give it a shot. Are you?
