Name: Desirae Duncan
Graduation Year: May 2014
Major: Journalism
Producer for Wildcat Student TV’s SportsZone

So you’re a big part of Wildcat Student TV now, how did you get the position of Producer for SportsZone?
I basically just applied and interviewed for it and was selected.

What does your job include?
I’m the production director for SportsZone, which means I’m responsible for editing together the show and any special segments we have. I’m responsible for the overall production of the show, making sure that it looks good before it goes on air.

Is it a large time commitment?
It’s a huge time commitment.SportsZone is a show that I want to see get better and to do that requires that I put time and effort into what I do. Editing takes forever and it’s a lot of behind the scenes work. But I love it. It also helps to work with a great crew who are so willing to learn and also have the same desire to help produce a great show every week.

What is the most difficult part?
The most difficult part is just organizing everything every week. With SportsZone being a weekly show, it’s an ongoing process of going to the games, being there at the studio, meetings, editing– it sometimes gets stressful working this into an already busy schedule.

Were you involved in WSTV beforehand as well?
I was involved with SportsZone a little bit last year, but not much.

Have you always been a big sports fan?
Yes, I just love the atmosphere at sporting events. It’s always a lot of fun.

Do you get to meet any of the student athletes?
Sometimes when we attend the press conferences and whatnot, but it’s no different than from seeing them around on campus.

So what’s your favorite part about the job?
My favorite part is just being part of a team. SportsZone isn’t just my show, but everybody’s show. It’s a great feeling to know that I’m in a leadership position to bring everybody together as a team to make sure the show comes together. It’s the best feeling in the world when we finish editing a show and it gets positive feedback. SportsZone may not seem like a big deal but we’re the only student sports show for UK, a campus big into sports. I’d call that a big deal. :)
