Alexandra Szajowski, our very own HerCampus ISU reader, came to this university for several reasons. Her love for ISU is evident and she keeps herself busy by working as a Rec lifeguard and her position in her sorority, Phi Sigma Sigma. We had the privilege to interview her this week and learn more about this HC lover.
HC: What do you like about ISU?
Szajowski: What I like the most about Illinois State University is the friendly, welcoming atmosphere of this campus. I knew from the moment I visited that this was the place for me. Coming from a rather large high school (Maine South represent!), I feel that ISU was the perfect next step for my education. Also, the quad is my favorite part of the campus. I love how busy it always is and how I seem to always find a familiar face on my way to class or the Rec.
HC: So, why do you like reading HerCampus?
Szajowski: I like reading HerCampus because it’s fun! I get the inside scoop on what’s going around campus, as well as some good girly knowledge. HerCampus is like ISU’s own personal Cosmopolitan magazine!
HC: What year are you?
Szajowski: I am a junior here at ISU. I am 20 years old, 21 on March 3rd!
HC: What is your major?
Szajowski: I am majoring in exercise science, with a minor in family & consumer sciences, where I will focus on nutrition and dietetics.
HC: Are you involved on campus?
Szajowski: I work for ISU’s Campus Recreation at the Student Fitness Center as a lifeguard. I also am involved in Greek life. I am in Phi Sigma Sigma. Through Phi Sigma Sigma, I have been given many opportunities to volunteer in the surrounding community, as well as having the Nutrition & Intramural Committee Head positions within my chapter. I also recently joined ISU’s Health & Wellness Student Wellness Ambassador Team (S.W.A.T.) and will be seen at Wellness Workshops & the G-Spot around campus soon!
HC: What are your plans after college?
Szajowski: When I graduate from college, I plan to pursue physical therapy graduate school, hopefully closer to home (the northwest suburbs of Chicago). I want to eventually live in Chicago and hopefully land a sucessful internship or job in the Midwest.
HC: What’s a random or interesting fact about yourself?
Szajowski: The scariest, most thrilling, and unforgettable moment of my life was when I bungee-jumped off a bridge over a raging river in El Nino, Ecuador. Some day, I plan on sky-diving.
