Meet Tsion: A 6-year-old in Ethiopia sponsored through Her Campus Pitt

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

Tsion is a kindergartner at the Selamta Family Project in Ethiopia. Last year, Her Campus Pitt helped send her to school through the not-for-profit She’s the First by asking for donations at the Cultures Clothing Fashion Show. The money raised paid for continuous education at a rigorous K-12 private school; school supplies including uniform, backpack and notebooks; after-school tutoring programs; sports and soccer registration fees; summer enrichment programs; a small budget for birthday and holiday celebrations; and a small savings account for Tsion.

Tsion is the youngest in her family, and she loves all of the attention that she gets from her older siblings. She also likes to do gymnastics and dance. She recently sent us a letter and told us that she likes hip-hop music and is studying Amheric and English. In addition, she wrote that she wants to be an airplane pilot when she grows up. The letters can be viewed on the She’s the First website by following this link: http://www.shesthefirst.org/ts…. There are two letters up on the site, an adorable coloring of her handprint, and a picture of Tsion.

We will be raising money to sponsor Tsion for a second year this Thursday, November 29th. Her Campus Pitt is holding a Girl’s Night Out at Peter’s Pub at 7:30 pm. All money donated will go towards Tsion’s education and help her be the first in her family to graduate high school and pursue her dreams.

You can respond to the letters that Tsion has written by leaving a comment below. All of your comments will be included in the next package of letters we send to Tsion.
