BREAKING NEWS: A Royal Baby On The Way!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Exeter chapter.

It has today been confirmed that the nations sweethearts, Kate and Wills are indeed expecting their first child. A statement from St James Palace revealed, “Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby.” After marrying in a ceremony at Westminster Palace in April 2011, the world has watched in anticipation for an announcement suggesting a royal patter of tiny feet!

The announcement was made following the news that Kate has been admitted to hospital with serious morning sickness.  While staying at her parent’s house in Berkshire, the Duchess became ill and the Duke soon returned from his weekend away to be at her side. He then accompanied her to the King Edward VI hospital in London to be treated for her condition. St James Palace stated “As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, Her Royal Highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter.”Although the couple had hoped to keep the news secret until the 12-week stage of Kate’s pregnancy, they decided to make the news public to avoid speculation about her time in hospital. Although the royal couple are said to have found out recently, there has been no suggestion of how many weeks along the Duchess may be.

With messages of support and congratulations flooding in from politicians and the public alike, the world is clearly overjoyed at the news! British Prime Minister David Cameron was among the first to express his congratulations, “I’m delighted by the news that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting a baby. They will make wonderful parents.” A tweet from Cheryl Cole also emulates the feelings of the nation, “I’m sooooooo excited that we’re having a royal baby !!!! Congratulations to Kate and Wills !!!!!” Both the Royal family and the Middleton family are said to be delighted with the news, although Uncle Harry may not be so overjoyed to hear that the Royal baby will become third in line to the throne, pushing him to fourth!

Prince William sparked rumours of the pregnancy last week when he accepted a baby grow from a woman in the crowds in Cambridge. Wills exclaimed “I’ll keep that!” after spotting the handmade baby grow that had the words “Daddy’s Little Pilot” on the front. Her Campus wishes the Royal Couple many congratulations on this happy news and best wishes that the Duchess has a speedy recovery.
