10 Reasons Why It’s Awesome to be Single During the Holidays

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

It’s the holiday season, which could either mean the cuddling season, if you are in a relationship, or the “gag stop kissing and holding hands while you walk in the snow” season, if you aren’t in a relationship. This winter season for me is a “Ugh, get out of my way lovey dovey couple, I need to get to class.” I am not bitter…maybe a little. So, I wrote this list on why it’s great to be single during this time of year.

  1. You Save Money on Gifts and Mistletoe! More money for you….errr I mean your family and friends! No stressing over what to get your significant other! And no need to try and be cute holding mistletoe over your loved one’s head, that’s another $8 in your pocket!
  2. You can snort/laugh obnoxiously while you watch your favorite holiday movies! No one to judge you. (Hint: Elf!)
  3. No awkward family gatherings (other than your own). It’s just you, your yoga pants and your parent’s couch. You don’t need to pretend you like your possible future mother-in-law’s cooking or that you love seeing Aunt Freda’s thirty pictures of her cats with Santa hats on.
  4. You can eat as many holiday cookies and candy canes as you want. Enough said.
  5. Hand warmers are 10 times warmer than a guy’s.  Those packets feel like fire in your gloves, trust me they are wayyyyy warmer!
  6. Coats are just as warm too. Who needs hugs when you have Omni-Heat technology in your jacket?
  7. Kissing in the snow? Yeah right, more like freezing your butt off trying to be romantic. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
  8. You can focus on your family and your job. We finally have a full 3 weeks off for break so I am going back to my job. I can work overtime and get more money, instead of worrying to get back to my man. Plus, who doesn’t love family time?
  9. Single people go to holiday parties. There will be a ton of cuties there, so go put on that fun party dress and get to mingling.
  10. No pressure to be someone’s New Year’s midnight kiss. So grab that random guy at your friend’s party and land one on him.

To people who have found love, enjoy the holiday season with that lucky person and as for us single ladies, let’s have some fun!
