Tips And Tricks: Holiday Gift Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

As the holiday season rolls around, we all want to give great gifts but don’t want to burn our bank accounts out doing so. This weeks “Tips and Tricks” blogs will tell you and help you save money while still giving great, personalized gifts. Happy holidays to all!

Hand Painted Mug

A great DIY gift for the holiday season is a hand painted mug, whether for your sister, mom, friend, anyone! All you will need is a ceramic or porcelain mug, enamel paint in your color(s)s of choice, and a paintbrush. Paint whatever you would like on your mug (maybe a design or a quote) & then let dry for atleast 45 minutes. Depending on the paint, drying times and baking times will differ.

Kraft Paper Wrapping

A super great way to save money this holiday season is to use kraft paper (shipping paper) when wrapping your presents.  Wrapping paper can get extremely expensive per roll and you can find kraft paper at your local Michaels, Office Max, or Target. Another huge plus of kraft paper is that you can customize your present once it is wrapped. A silver sharpie looks great on the paper and you can write/design whatever you would like on it.

Brown Sugar Scrubs

Another great gift idea for friends and family are homemade brown sugar scrubs. These are super cheap to make and great gifts for the winter. All you will need is 2 ½ cups brown sugar, 1 cup olive oil, and dashes of cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix all the ingredients together and you have your scrub! You can make your own packaging out of glass jars and ribbon.

Until next time,
