We’ve all done it before – left the house in yoga pants and a big, comfy sweatshirt, with our hair in a bun and the remnants of last night’s makeup. On the days when it’s a struggle just to get out of bed, the last thing you want to do is turn on the flat iron and primp in the mirror for an hour. The truth is, though, you never know who you’ll see when you go out, or where you’ll end up, so it’s in your best interest to look your best. We came up with some reasons why:

1. Confidence.
Sure, your sweats are comfy and cozy, and easy to throw on, but they also make you want to crawl back into bed the first chance you get. While youe first instinct might be to reach for the softest thing you can get your hands on, starting your day in your best-fitting jeans and a nice shirt will have you feeling upbeat and put together all day. Feeling good about how you look is the best thing you can do for your confidence, and that means leaving those sweats in your pajama drawer.

2. You could meet your future boyfriend.
It sounds cliché, yes, but it is a possibility. That cute guy in your 8 AM lecture might choose today to finally sit next to you, so why not be sure that if he does, he’ll notice how great you’re looking that morning. Looks aren’t everything, but hey, they don’t hurt either.

3. You might end up standing in line behind George Clooney at Starbucks.
Okay this one is a long shot, but you would hate yourself forever if this happened while you were wearing the summer camp t-shirt and leggings you pulled out from the bottom of your hamper, wouldn’t you? So you might not wind up standing in line behind George Clooney, but that doesn’t mean you won’t end up standing in line behind that professor who is considering you as TA for next semester, or the employer you’re waiting to hear back from. You’d hate yourself if they saw you in that outfit too, wouldn’t you?

Does all this mean you should put in hours of effort to just to go to the dining hall? Of course not. It just means that your biggest, baggiest sweatpants, and most worn out T-shirt should not make it past your front door. A little mascara and proper fitting clothes go a long way.
