With Kate Middleton’s due date getting ever closer, Buckingham Palace has confirmed the title of her soon-to-arrive baby. Depending on whether she gives birth to a gorgeous royal baby boy or baby girl, its title is to be either His Royal Highness (HRH) Prince of Cambridge or Her Royal Highness Princess of Cambridge. The baby, third in line to the British throne, will be following in its parents’ steps since Kate and William’s titles are the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, an honour bestowed on them as a wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth II in April 2011.

Kate’s due date is rumoured to be the 13th July – only four days away – but there have been some suggestions she could give birth any time within the week, so we’ll all be sitting tight waiting for this news to drop!

The baby is to be born at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, the same hospital where its father and uncle, Princes William and Harry, were born. The couple have elected to not know the sex of their baby before it’s born and so there is still much speculation as to both its gender and potential names. The highest bets are on Alexandra or Charlotte if it’s a girl or George or Charles if it’s a boy.

Although you might expect Wills to be sitting at Kate’s side, he’s still working in Anglesey, Wales, as a search and rescue pilot for the RAF. But fear not girls, he’ll still able to make it to Kate’s side by the time she has her baby as it is rumoured that he has a helicopter on standby in his back garden waiting to take him on the 90 minute flight to London as soon as she is in labour.

The Mayor of Cambridge, Paul Sanders has said, to the Mail Online, that the baby’s title is “a great honour, and that I’m sure that the people of Cambridge will appreciate it greatly”.

Cambridge relies heavily, not only on its very prestigious university, but on tourism, and it is hoped that the announcement and use of this new title will encourage more tourists to visit this beautiful city. It has also been confirmed that any other children that the royal couple may have will also carry the same title.

But this isn’t the only recent baby news from the palace! Buckingham Palace announced yesterday that William’s cousin, Zara Tindall, who is married to English rugby player Mike Tindall, is expecting her first child in the New Year. It’s baby central over in the palace it seems!
