Review: Gnu Bars

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Princeton chapter.

Think of a multigrain/healthy/everything bread. Now think of crumpling it up into a bar and then yummifying it with fruits, cinnamon, or chocolate. Tada! You get a Gnu bar. These bars fall on the smaller scale (45g, while a Cliff bar is 68g) but don’t let size fool you! There is so much fiber in this little thing –12g, which is 50% of your daily requirement (A Cliff bar has a meager 4g) and it will fill you right up. Ranging from 130-140 cal, these things are perfect for quenching your cravings in the middle of the night, and keeping your digestive system healthy at the same time!

My thoughts on the individual flavors:

  • Carrot Cake Bar: tastes good. 12g fiber, and I can feel it as I chew on it.
  • Orange Cranberry Bar: 130 cal. Tastes like orange marmalade. Problem is, it was like I was also eating the peels. If you like orange soda, and would like it healthified, this is for you. If you never really liked orange or lemon tasting candy (fruit roll-up, Starburst, etc) or don’t want that kind of aftertaste for you healthy snack, then this flavor is not recommended.
  • Blondie Bar: 140 cal. I initially had no idea what this flavor is, but I guess it has to do with caramel and marshmellows? Regardless, it tasted great!
  • Banana Walnut: 140 cal. Alright.
  • Blueberry Cobbler: 130 cal. Tastes great.
  • Peanut Butter Bar: 140 cal. Tastes great.
  • Cinnamon Raisin Bar: 130 cal. Tastes like a delicious multigrain cinnamon roll, if they even exist. Yum!

Verdict: I should stock up on these for Dean’s Date.
