5 Minute Morning Makeup Routine

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

If you’re anything like me, you want to sleep as late as possible in the morning, but still make it to class on time. At the same time, there is something to be said for looking nice and put-together for class. One way you can accomplish this is by putting on a bit of makeup, which will give your face a fresh look and will make you look more awake for your 8 a.m.! But who has the time to do an intricate and time-consuming makeup routine in the morning? Save that for when you’re going out! Here are step-by-step instructions that include the specific products I use, that I believe to be a great five minute makeup routine for a college girl on the go!

1. First, dab on some concealer underneath your eyes to cover up dark circles if you have them. This will brighten your eyes and make you look less tired. You’re going to want to use a concealer that is a shade or two lighter than your skin tone, and it can also be used to cover any blemishes you may have on your face. I really like the Maybelline Coverstick Concealer ($4), which comes in many shades.

2. Foundation or BB cream is the next step you should take. Foundation will provide more coverage than BB cream, depending on how much coverage you are looking to have. Both will give your skin a nice even tone all over. Be sure to use a foundation or BB cream that matches as close to your exact skin tone as possible. Apply the foundation or BB cream with a cosmetic sponge. Make sure to blend it down your neck a bit or else you may find yourself having those awkward makeup lines on the side of your face. I am a huge fan of Revlon ColorStay Foundation ($12), especially since they offer makeup for different skin types (oily, dry, combination, etc.)

3. Blush, blush, blush! I think that blush is a crucial makeup product that every girl who wears makeup should have in her cosmetic bag. It will give your face a nice warm glow! You should apply your favorite blush to the apples of your cheeks. If you’re unsure how to do this, just make a fish face and apply the blush to cheekbone, making sure to blend the blush upwards and towards the side of your face, as to prevent it from looking blotchy. I’ve been using e.l.f. blush ($3), which is super inexpensive and I like the product a lot.

4. Finally, mascara. Mascara will really give your eyes definition and will give you a more polished look. Apply the mascara to your upper and/or lower lashes. I’m not too picky about mascara; truthfully I buy whatever is on sale. Right now I’m using Maybelline Volum’Express One-By-One ($8), and I love it.

5. Head to class looking fresh and fabulous!

I named some of my favorite makeup products, but you may you prefer different ones. This is just the makeup routine I find works best for me when I’m in a rush! The best part is, is that all of these makeup products can be purchased at your favorite drugstore for very reasonable prices. You should experiment with different brands and products to see what works best for you!
