Lulu App: A Girl’s Dream and A Guy’s Worst Nightmare

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SMU chapter.

Have you ever met a guy and desperately wanted to learn more about him – his quirks, personality, charm? Lulu was made for this exact reason. Although it is an up and coming app, just about every guy has at least one review on Lulu that you can read up on. The dilemma is knowing whether the reviews are true or if they are just an ex girlfriend seeking revenge.

Here is how it works: To start, you need to link your Lulu account through Facebook. Don’t panic – Lulu promises anonymity, as well as won’t post on your Facebook account. After finishing this step, hundreds of guys pop up either from your friend list on Facebook or because they are around your area. If you have a specific stud in mind, there is a search bar at the top of the screen in which you can search any guy who has a Facebook profile. Once you get to their profile, you are then able to see how many girls have viewed his profile, how many girls have “favorited” him, and of course the user reviews with the average score and hashtags. You can then look through those or you can review him yourself.

How to review: Once you are on the guy’s profile, click on the button that says “Review him anonymously.” You will then be asked how you know him. The options are ex-boyfriend, crush, together, hooked up, friend, or relative. Based on that answer, you will then be given different questions about the guy. For example, if you choose friend you get questions that rate the guy’s appearance, humor, manners, ambition, and commitment. After the questions, you then choose prewritten hash tags for both the best and worst traits of that guy. Common hashtags are #CheaperThanABigMac, #FriendZone, #Manchild, #AmazingCuddles. Once you have chosen the #hashtags, the review is done, providing the average scores. Other girls can then verify your review by giving it a thumbs up or a thumbs down.

How this can work to your advantage: If you’re having suspicions, check out Lulu to see if your gut is telling you the truth. This way you can find out who the players are without actually getting hurt. Yet, it can also sway you in the direction of giving him a chance. Remember that all reviews are subjective – don’t base your decision off of one review!
