Ollie Wynne-Griffith ’17

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Yale chapter.

Year: 2017

College: Calhoun

Hometown: London, UK

Major: Undecided/Political Science

I had the pleasure of sitting down with Ollie in Bingham for an hour, discussing everything from his crew team to his celebrity crushes. Well known for his English accent and great sense of humor, it is not surprising that Ollie is this week’s Campus Cutie. Read on to find out about his English roots, ideal girl, and more!

HC: What did you do this summer?

OWG: I spent time with my friends from home at the beach and trained for crew a lot in preparation for Yale. I wanted to have a really fun summer in England before moving to America.

HC: How do you like rowing at Yale?

OWG: I like being on a team, it’s a really good group of around forty guys. I enjoy spending so much time with all of them. The competition is different than I’m used to, but I really like it.

HC: What’s your best Yale memory?

OWG: The heavy-weight crew team party on the first weekend of school was one of the most fun nights I’ve had so far. It was nice to host our first evening together at our house and catch up with some of the guys I hadn’t seen since my recruiting visit.

HC: Describe your ideal girl.

OWG: I don’t have a type for appearance but I definitely like a funny, kind, driven, easy-going girl, who is maybe a little feisty.

HC: Describe your ideal date.

OWG: My ideal date would be something low-pressured, chilled out and outdoorsy, perhaps a picnic or a sunbathing trip. I’m also always down to grab something to eat.

HC: What’s your favorite pick up line?

OWG: Do you live in a single or a double?

HC: What’s your favorite place on campus?

OWG: Commons for lunch because I like seeing all my friends in between classes and the pizza is really good.

HC: What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done?

OWG: I made a home-cooked dinner for my girlfriend at the time for our anniversary.

HC: Do you have any advice for girls at Yale?

OWG: Have fun without worrying about what other people think of you. This is college; it is the time to do stupid things.

HC: What’s a fun fact about yourself people at Yale wouldn’t know?

OWG: I can fit my whole fist in my mouth. Impressive, right?

HC: Where can we find you on a Saturday night?

OWG: You can either find me at the crew house with my team or hanging out with my friends in D11.

HC: If you had a look-alike, who do you think it would be?

OWG: I get told I look like Cillian Murphy a lot, and sometimes Robert Pattinson.

HC: Celebrity crush?

OWG: Definitely has to be Princess Katherine Middleton

HC: Where do you see yourself in five or ten years?

OWG: My ultimate dream is to row in the Olympics. If that doesn’t end up happening, I’ll probably be working at a law firm back at home in London. As for marriage, it’s way to early for me to start thinking about that.

HC: Favorite party theme?

OWG: “Snow pants or no pants” is always fun. I also like “anything but clothing” because its funny to see the outfits people come up with.

HC: Best pump-up song?

OWG: End Credits by Chase and Status. I always listen to this before races and during my crew fitness tests.

HC: Favorite movie?

OWG: Definitely has to be Anchorman or Zoolander. I love Will Ferrell and I think it’s really important to teach kids how to read good.

HC: What is your home like? Any siblings?

OWG: I have two older brothers, 21 and 23 years old. We’re all very different but we have so much fun when we’re together.

HC: What’s the nicest thing you’ve ever done for a girl?

OWG: I flew all the way to New York from London to spend a weekend with my girlfriend at that time. I wanted to see where she was working and meet all of her new friends.

HC: Yale girls are best because…

OWG: they all have something interesting about them and they’re much better looking than the girls back home.
