9 Halloween Costume Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

With Halloween being only a few weeks away, we may all know of a party or two in the near future. And, as a girl, one of the hardest things to do is to decide what to be for Halloween. Many factors go into our costume decision such as our budget, whether we know who will be attending the same party as us, the weather, and so on. With that said, HC Montclair has come up with nine Halloween costume ideas within three categories, which include simple, DIY, or sassy. Read below to learn more!

Simple. You may be attending a party but not know many of the people there, or not know what kind of costumes to expect. Therefore, you play it safe and dress up only a little. Here are the options for you!

1. Wear a wig. Wearing a fun wig is a quirky and silly way to dress up your night attire. You’re still participating in the fun, but you’re not wearing a costume. Purchase here.

2. Wear a flower headband. A headband brings on a hippy element to your costume, so find something in your closet to match that look. The best part? They’re a ton of fun! Purchase here.

3. Wear fangs. Fangs are a fun way to be a vampire without try too hard with the rest of your ensemble. Plus, they’re super cool and are perfect for Halloween. Purchase here.

DIY. Want to get creative and make your own costume? Impress others with your creativity by wearing something done by you. Or, find something in your closet to look the part!

1. Where’s Waldo? You probably have something in your closet that resembles the Waldo ensemble. What you’ll need: a red and white striped long sleeve shirt, a red and white knit hat, jeans, and loafers. To pull it off perfectly, find a cane!

2. Make a pumpkin dress. Find an orange dress, a Sharpie, and voila! You have a cute, simple, DIY dress that’s appropriate for any party you’ll go to.

3. Audrey Hepburn. Nothing is more classic than Audrey Hepburn (we’re not talking about Procrastinating Audrey, ladies!) in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. What you’ll need: a black dress, pearls, and an updo. Add black gloves, heels, and a pair of her sunglasses for the full look.

Sassy. So you don’t want to make your own dress and add something simple to a regular outfit. You want to truly dress up and look girly. Here are the classics that can be worn to any party, and aren’t trashy.

1. Sailor. This costume does a fun and girly twist on sailor attire! It isn’t inappropriate and has a pin up twist to it. Photo and purchase here.

2. Cop. This cop costume is fun for any and every kind of Halloween party you attend, and shows off your legs! What we love about this is that it’s sexy, but not slutty. Photo and purchase here.

3. Cat. Everyone loves a catsuit! Being a cat is quite popular on Halloween, but this one is fun because it’s a bodysuit. If it’s cold, you don’t need to bring a jacket. Photo and purchase here.
