You wake up to emails from them every morning. You count on them to provide you with the news. You secretly always hope they’ll retweet your latest lament about the dining hall. But who are they?

Meet the mastermind behind BCstreak’s Twitter account.

What was the inspiration behind BCstreak?

BC grad Mike Nardella ’13 had noticed that many of his classmates did not keep up with the news, but they still wanted to be in the know. So in 2011, Mike, and a friend from home, created a general email newsletter (not school specific), and asked their friends to subscribe. Eventually, the founders of Streak introduced a BC-specific newsletter and a NYU-specific newsletter, and it really took off through word of mouth. Streak is now present at over 15 universities and counting.

What made you get involved?

I first learned about BCstreak in 2011 because I saw it featured in a HerCampus BC article. So I subscribed to the newsletter and began to rely on it for my daily news. Every morning before I get out of bed, I read the BCstreak newsletter from my phone.

I joined the Streak team in the fall of 2012 in an effort to help market the newsletter. I took control of the Twitter, mainly for marketing/ advertising purposes, but I began to have some fun with it, and it has since transitioned into something much more.

What’s the best part about being a part of BCstreak?

I love when people tweet at me. Whether they are asking a question, looking for a retweet, or sharing information. I like to think of myself as a facilitator for the BCstreak account. Sure, I create a lot of my own tweets, but the majority of the tweets are retweets of other BC students. It’s a voice for the students of Boston College.

Is there anything exciting we should be looking for on BCstreak?

We are putting together a Punta Cana Spring Break package for BC students! We noticed that there was no definitive place for BC students to go because, unlike a lot of colleges, we do not have Greek life that dictates where everyone goes for Spring Break. We think that BC students should have the chance to be together at the same place for break. We also know that planning a trip with a group of friends can be a lot of work (and expensive!), so we wanted to make that easier and cheaper for everyone.

Check out http://bcstreak.com/spring-break/. Over 100 BC students went on this trip last year, and many of them are featured in this Harlem Shake video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUQwzwFf5i0

Tell us a little bit more about Streak!

I think there a lot people who follow BCstreak on Twitter, but don’t know about the newsletter. It’s really a great way to stay connected to all things BC, while also getting local, national, and world news. You can sign up for the BCstreak newsletter at www.bcstreak.com. On Mondays, we like to have a “Mod Monday” section of the newsletter, featuring pictures of BC students in the mods, but we need you guys to send us more pictures! Send us your mod pics to dailymail@streaku.com or tweet them @BCstreak
