5 Things I’ve Learned from Leslie Knope

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCF chapter.

Friends above all

Despite her crazy busy schedule, she is fully dedicated to her friends. Her well thought out gifts and intricate surprises have her friends asking her to stop because they can’t keep up. In the end, she will always be there to support her friends, even when she doesn’t fully agree.

Love your community

Besides working in multiple parts of the local government, Leslie Knope is obsessed with Pawnee. No matter how obese and raccoon infested the town is, she will stand by Pawnee until the end. She always keeps the communities best interest in mind and sticks through any criticism -even from her own community. Sometimes your community doesn’t feel much like one, but you should always stand by them!

Work hard and stick to it

The three and a half hours of sleep might have something to do with her productivity, but her pure dedication has definitely got something to do with it. She is full blown workaholic but she know how to get sh*t done! Through all of her hard work, she was able to achieve her dreams and keep pushing to go the extra mile.

Keep your goals in mind

Starting as Deputy Director of the Parks and Recreation department she never quits working. Ms. Knope has made her way to city council and doesn’t plan on stopping there. Keeping her goals set and solid, she’s been able to work her way to the places she’s only dreamt of being.

Don’t take life so seriously

Though hard work has gotten Leslie far, her sense of humor and joy of life has gotten her even further. Enjoying what you do is what it’s all about, and getting to where you want to be should always be fun. Surrounding yourself with the things you enjoy and the right people to enjoy them with, life will be alright.
