Holidays With The Other Half

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Le Moyne chapter.

Hey Ladies,

It’s about that time of year again where the weather gets colder and you just wanna snuggle up with your other half. Some people get the big holiday dump and if you did, there’s another blog on how to deal with it. Sorry. But if you stuck through it, you might be spending some of the holidays with him (or her). So here’s a few things that will more than likely happen.

If you’re spending the holidays with his family, you might be meeting them for the first time. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Just be cool. Don’t try too hard to be so happy go lucky if it’s not in your nature. Be you. Unless you’re a hugely sarcastic human being (like myself) tone that back. You don’t want to give the folks the impression that all you do is insult people all day as if that’s how you breathe! Wear something that’s comfortably nice. You want their parents to know that their child has a keeper. Even if you don’t stick around, you never want to be hated by parents. What if you guys stay friends afterwards? :-O

If you’re not meeting for the first time, you already know the deal. Eat ‘til your heart is content but be modest about it. Wait until everyone gets to that point where the whole table is just scoping the food to see if the second or third plate is worth the 15 pounds you have to lose before Christmas comes around and you gain another… 20. You don’t want to seem like a slob but if mother cooked the food, you better believe she wants you to like it! EAT!

Passing Thanksgiving… the big one. Christmas. No matter if this is the first or fifth Christmas with his, get a gift that you know he or she wants. Talk to their mom. They will know and if they like you, they will help you get a great gift that coincides with the gift they plan to get. Perfect example. Mom is getting the new PS4. Get him the video game he’s been talking about months before it dropped in stores. For her, maybe she’s getting a new cell phone, get the phone case that she’s been trying to stop herself from buying forever and a day ago! You always need a good gift but in opinion, never out do the mother. She might get a feeling of an attempt at competition or replacement. Unfortunately, it happens. So tip from a semi-wise. I’ve watched a lot of movies to know.

After the food and gifts… New Year’s Eve/Day. I’m going to say no comment on this one. Just have fun. SAFELY!!

That’s it for this one. Enjoy the Holidays, for those in college reading this, break legs for the semester and finals, hope you pass!
