RLCG Charles: 7 Things to be Thankful for this Holiday Season

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at WVWC chapter.

Thanksgiving is always a great reminder to be thankful for our blessings in life. But why end there? The holiday season is the perfect chance to pause and remember the things you’re grateful for. Check out this list, and let us know on Facebook or Twitter what you think should be added!

  1. Opportunities
We all have our problems, whether it’s health challenges or tough finals. On the flipside, we’re also presented with great opportunities. Don’t waste time being upset or mad, not doing something because you think you will fail, having regrets, living in the past, or being afraid of what life has to offer you. Be brave, and take life head on!
  2. Change
No matter where you come from or what challenges you face, there’s always a chance to make a difference. Be the change in the world. Don’t simply watch and say you want change. Be the change! Leave your imprint on the world.
  3. Loved Ones
Think of your mom, dad, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, grandmother, grandfather, husband, wife, dog, cat, or turtle. No matter who makes up your family, there’s most likely a couple of people who are always there for you. Take the time to appreciate them, and enjoy spending time with them, too. If a friend has a loved one who is absent this holiday season, reach out and let them know you’re thinking about them.
  4. Food
Between Thanksgiving turkey and Christmas cookies, there’s no shortage of goodies to eat this season. However, even today, people still go hungry all around the world. Be thankful for the food you have, plan ways to not be wasteful, and try to help out a neighbor or those in need in your community.
  5. Clothes
As the temperature continues to drop, we’re all thankful to bundle up in our winter gear, wear that scarf we bought on clearance this summer, or buy a sparkly new dress for our favorite New Year’s Eve party. But before you hang that new dress in your closet, go through your wardrobe and give those unworn pieces to a clothing drive or store nearby. You’ll get your spring closet cleaning done early and help others at the same time!
  6. Memories
The memories of past holidays. Good memories and bad memories. Cooking with your family, watching football, making snowmen, decorating a freshly cut Christmas tree, and jamming out to Christmas music. Reflecting back on these memories, remembering the true reasons for the season, is always a good reminder of our blessings.
  7. Our Armed Forces
While we are home with our families for the holidays, our armed forces are across the globe fighting for our freedom. To them, we say thank you!

During the holiday season, remember the real reason why we celebrate. Hope everyone had an amazing Thanksgiving, and good luck with upcoming finals!
