Meet McKenzie, a 21-year-old sports marketing student at the University of Oregon. Raised in Sherwood, Oregon, McKenzie now works at the front desk of the student rec center and plays on multiple intramural sports teams on campus. She’s got school spirit and a passion for sports! Without further ado, here’s McKenzie Griffin!

HCO: So you work at the Student Rec Center. What exactly does your job entail?

I just recently got promoted to Front Desk at the Student Recreation Center. My job entails monitoring facility access, facilitating sales, enforcing policy, and providing excellent customer service to everyone who enters the Rec.

HCO: Why did this job appeal to you?

I got this job in spring of my freshman year (Spring of 2012). It appealed to me because I, myself, enjoy being active and I always enjoyed working out at the Rec. I thought it would be fun to work with the outgoing people I saw who had worked there already. I am very happy with my decision. I have been fortunate to work with such an amazing staff and being able to help people be active and feel the best I can.

HCO: What other clubs or groups are you involved in on campus?

I am involved in Warsaw Sports Business Club, Bowerman’s Pack Internship Group, and multiple intramural teams (including flag football, volleyball in the fall and spring, and basketball).

HCO: What do you do for these groups?

Last year was my first year in Warsaw and I was lucky enough to get a sponsorship position with the first Emerald City Friendlies soccer tournament, which was a soccer tournament for adults that helped raise money for the Relief Nursery. I also had the privilege of getting a spot in Bowerman’s Pack Internship Group, where me and a group of fellow students worked together in attempt to increase student attendance at Track and Field meets in the spring.

HCO: Why did you want to get involved on campus?

I didn’t want to miss out on the incredible opportunities that are offered to us at U of O. I want to get the most out of my college experience. I enjoy staying busy and learning about different aspects of the sports business field.

HCO: What do you love about the University of Oregon?

The enormous amount of activities offered at UO, the high level of school spirit provided by students, and the beauty of campus.

HCO: Any plans for after graduation?

I plan to work somewhere in the sports marketing field after I graduate. I would love to travel abroad either before I begin my career or travel wherever my career may take me.
