Campus Celebrity: Mike Bucher

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJU chapter.

Meet Mike Bucher; a super involved senior at SJU with a bright smile and an even brighter future ahead of him. HC caught up with Mike to ask him a few questions about himself and the organization he founded on campus just last year.

The Details:

Can you tell us a little bit about the organization you started on campus, Enactus?

Enactus is a community of student, academic and business leaders committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to enable human progress. Students on college campuses collaborate to apply creative ideas and business concepts to develop community outreach projects, transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world. Enactus enables us to identify organizations and businesses that we can truly impact in a lasting matter.

What sparked you to want to bring Enactus to SJU’s campus?

I actually attended their “World Cup” two years ago – a competition where teams form 39 different countries presented their projects. Seeing what students our age around the world can accomplish to enact change and help others really motivated me to bring that back to campus. These students build incredible projects from small, creative ideas – and it’s really cool to think that we can be doing the same.

Tell me more about the work Enactus is doing with the Kristin Mitchell Foundation and what exactly the Foundation is?

Our primary involvement centers on Kristin’s Krusade – a 5K held in Kristin Mitchell’s honor annually. It will be on Sunday, April 6th at 11 AM – and everyone should come! It’s a tremendous opportunity to come together as an SJU community and support an organization that continues to save lives. Enactus is revamping the race so that many more students will participate – this year, it will be a fun-run where costumes are encouraged, with a celebration at Landmark afterward. We’re also working on a few other ideas, like social media and an apparel line, to help the Foundation more effectively reach 16-24 year olds. Kristin graduated from SJU in 2005 and was a victim of dating violence three weeks later – the Foundation exists to help inform teenagers and young adults about dating violence and prevent those situations.  Enactus is grateful for the opportunity to help them continue to save lives and reach young people.

Are you involved in anything else on campus?

Yes, I’m also the President of the Food Marketing Association, and I’m involved/around pretty much anything involving food marketing. I currently work at Campbell Soup in Camden – I extended last semester’s co-op to part-time this semester. I’m also a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the business honor society. Also typically playing pick-up basketball at O’Pake.

What are your plans for after graduation?

I will be working in sales for Mondelez International – the company that owns brands like Oreos and Ritz crackers! Eventually getting my MBA and doing brand management.

As a senior, what advice would you give to underclassmen at SJU?

Totally cliché, but I would tell underclassmen to really take advantage of the endless opportunities that SJU offers, and don’t wait until junior or senior year to get involved.

My name is Paige Kacmar, I am a marketing major at Saint Joseph's University. I am so excited to be part of the HerCampus SJU team. I love every little thing about Saint Joe's and could not imagine myself spending these four years anywhere else. Along with writing for this blog I am also a member of the university's dance team. I am obsessed with basketball season and love cheering on the hawks! When I'm not dancing or writing you can usually find me online shopping at Urban Outfitters, eating Doritos, or stalking Kylie Jenner's Instagram.
