Great Ways to Take a Break from the Stressful End-of-the-Year Studying

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at F and M chapter.

Great Ways to Take a Break from the Stressful End-of-the-Year Studying

  1. Go outside. It is now the time of the year when the weather is gorgeous, so head outside to take a break from staring at your computer or a book.
  2. Hang out with your friends. Interacting with other people can also be a stress reliever. You can catch up with your friends on what their days were like or bemoan together the amount of work you have to complete in the next few weeks.
  3. Get active! Go for a run or head to the gym to work out some of your stress and take a study break. It will make you feel less stressed and way more positive. It will be good for your mind and body!
  4. Catch up on a television show or a movie. While you probably shouldn’t binge on Netflix when you have a paper due the next day, there is nothing wrong with watching an episode or two of your favorite show in order to give your mind a break from thinking.
  5. Read a book you actually enjoy. Instead of having to read dozens of pages in some textbook you have to read for class, start a novel or continue one that you’ve had set aside for a while. Being in college definitely cuts into a girl’s free time to read, but reading for pleasure could be the perfect break from homework.
  6. Take a power nap. Studies have shown that a twenty-minute nap can make you more productive and well rested. Switch off the lots, lie down, and set an alarm so you don’t sleep for too long.
  7. Go somewhere. Whether you go to a movie with your friends, dinner with your boyfriend, or a party, going out into a more social setting can be a great break from sitting in your dorm of the library and stressing over something that you really should not be so worried about.
  8. Call home. No matter how often you talk to your parents, they would most likely be ecstatic to hear from you more. Dial your parents or other family members just to see how their day is going or to say you miss them. Afterwards, you’ll feel happier after reconnecting with home!
  9. Skype a friend who isn’t at your college. It can sometimes be hard to keep in touch with your high school friends, but when it seems like your workload is overwhelming you and you need a break, Skype or message one of them and catch up!
  10.  Read a blog or some Her Campus articles! Her Campus sends out their study break emails for a reason – so you can take a break from studying!
I attend Franklin & Marshall College and am the campus correspondent of the Her Campus chapter here. I also play flute with the Pep Band and Symphonic Wind Ensemble. I am an editor for the Patsy Post, am involved with F&M Unleashed, a member of Mu Upsilon Sigma, and a Brother of Phi Sigma Pi, a co-ed honors fraternity.
Along with being the Her Campus Franklin and Marshall Campus Correspondent, I am also the editor-in-chief of Epilogue, F&M's literary Magazine, Staff Writer for The College Reporter, F&M's student newspaper, and a very active member of Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity. When not hard at work, you can find me writing, reading, geeking out over Disney movies with my friends, or doing art projects.
