The Good, the Bad and the Uggly

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marshall chapter.

With the change in temperature, Marshall University’s campus is seeing a change in style as well: the sun is coming out, and the UGG boots and North Faces are going away. If you’re an aspiring fashionista or just want to keep up with the latest styles and trends, here is what to expect this spring. The Huffington Post gives us a look into future spring styles with its top 10 trends, and that look into the future is actually taking us into the past. If you’ve been shopping lately, you may be experiencing a little déjà vu walking through stores, especially in ones that are up on the latest styles, such as H&M and Forever 21. As much as we’ve tried to avoid it (or at least I have!), the style of the 90s is making a big comeback. Sunflower prints, denim dresses and overalls are out in full force. D.J. Tanner would be proud.

Also expect to see an array of button-ups, crop tops and jackets. It’s a good thing, too. With early morning classes, layering is a girl’s best friend. Button-up tops will be essential to any girl’s closet in springtime by providing the ability to layer it over a tank. Start your morning off by throwing on a cute jacket over your button-up, and shed the jacket by the afternoon to show off campus your style!

While every girl will always have her supply of leggings, it looks as if wide-legged pants are coming back as well.

“Perhaps the biggest (or shall I say, widest?) development that I’ve noticed over the last [several] days is that baggy trousers are popping up everywhere,” says Alison Syrett Cleary, a writer for Lucky. “It’s almost as though overnight, every cool girl decided that she was totally over the ankle-skimming tapered look!”

If you’re out shopping at the Huntington Mall and make a stop at Charlotte Russe or Macy’s, you’ll notice that pants have gotten a lot – well, flowy-er. Baggy trousers are popping up everywhere once again and tight pants are on the outs, so let us eat cake.

Albeit, you may not want to be eating cake while wearing this next comeback style; the athletic look. Don’t assume that the girl sitting next to you in class sporting the baseball cap, athletic shorts and top just came from the gym. According to The Huffington Post, several top designers are coming out with high-class gym wear that you probably won’t want to wear to the gym — unless you sweat gold.

Whether you choose to rock a cropped top and wide-legged pants, sport the athletic look or mix and match the styles coming back around this spring, remember that you always look best when you’re you!

So girls, pack up those UGG boots, throw on your Keds and get outside and enjoy the spring weather in style.
