Campus Celebrity: Jake Loken

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Tampa chapter.

Jake Loken, a 21-year-old senior, studying Marketing and Government and World Affairs, hails from just around the corner: Destin, Florida.

Last year, Loken was awarded the Undergraduate Marketing Student of the Year award, where he received an honorary plaque congratulating him for all of his accomplishments and the ways he has applied his major to outside areas. This isn’t the only leadership role he has here at The University of Tampa. He is currently on the executive board for Student Government, serving as the Chief of the Judicial Branch. He is also Vice President of Recruitment of Phi Alpha Delta; the Vice President of Community Standards for the Interfraternity Council; an active member of People for People and the Debate Team; and has been a brother of Sigma Phi Epsilon since freshman year, where he served as Vice President of Recruitment for a year. That is one busy schedule right there.

Although his many accomplishments may make you question yourself and his ability to have a life, Jake is a very humble gentleman who lives for adventure and loves to go out with friends. He enjoys jet skiing, cars, boats, playing volleyball, the bar scene, and just about anything active. On the weekends, he can be spotted exploring new places. Just recently he went camping in the Everglades, and over the summer, he drove through all of the Keys.

Loken has lived in Honolulu, Hawaii, and Italy. His dream job is to be a lawyer and maybe a politician someday- but the “good kind.” He genuinely enjoys making others happy, and lives by Andrew Carnegie’s saying, “Do not look for approval except for the consciousness of doing your best.”

Loken’s current project is applying to law schools. We wish him luck, although, we don’t think he will need any! Oh, and ladies? He’s single.

Shane Autumn Nebbia is a junior at The University of Tampa, where she is pursuing a degree in Communication, a minor in Spanish, and a certificate in International Studies. Originally from a small town in New Jersey, Shane hopes to one day live somewhere where she can walk out to her backyard and be greeted with the ocean and a bunch of sea turtles and dolphins. Shane can be seen working in the Admissions office at UT, and collecting extra meals for the homeless on the weekends. When she's not in class, Shane can be found sitting in Plant Park, either with a good book or with a friend. Shane lives for her family, adventure, traveling, and her unhealthy addiction to chocolate chip cookies. Although Shane does not know where the wind will blow her, she hopes that one day she will be able to start an organization that gives back to both animals and people.
