Sophia Bremer ’18: World Traveler

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at American chapter.

Traveling the world is usually on lots of people’s bucket lists, but freshman Bremer has a huge jumpstart on the globe. Sophia is an international student from Germany that has traveled practically everywhere in Europe and Asia along with other neighboring countries.

Her Campus American University: Tell us a little about yourself?

Sophia Bremer: I was born in Vietnam and adopted by a German father and an American mother. I moved from Texas to Germany with my adoptive parents.

HCAU: What are you studying?

SB: I am studying international studies with a focus on terrorism. I will possibly declare Chinese as my minor.

HCAU: Why did you choose AU?

SB: I chose AU because studying in Washington, D.C. is perfect for my major and more appealing than any other school in Europe. AU offers great opportunities.

HCAU: What are you passionate about?

SB: My biggest passion is traveling. Living in Europe has its advantages because traveling to different countries is easy to do by airplane or train. It’s also relatively cheap.

HCAU: How many countries have you been to?

SB: I have been to Denmark, France, Italy, Norway, China, England, Vietnam and the Dominican Republic, to name a few.

HCAU: What was your favorite trip so far?

SB: My favorite trip was when I traveled to Vietnam to meet my birth mom. I also met my birth brother during that trip. I believe traveling to Vietnam changed my life because I got out of my comfort zone. Another trip I loved was when I had the choice my sophomore year to study abroad in Italy or China. I chose China and it widened my worldview.

HCAU: Do you want a job that requires you to travel?

SB: Yes, I want to work for the state department or an embassy to incorporate my language skills and meet different people.
