College Fashion Week Boston from a Model’s Perspective

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at BC chapter.

On Saturday October 6th, I was one of the few lucky girls who modeled in Her Campus’s College Fashion Week at the Estate Club in Boston. We arrived at the venue at 3:30 pm on Saturday and the next few hours were a whirlwind of events including getting out hair and makeup done, making new friends from girls all over the greater-Boston area, and of course, sneaking a few selfies here and there! There was an overall feeling of anxiety among the models but we all tried to stay as calm, cool, and collected even as we were being told that a few hundred spectators were expected.

I was lucky and happy to have one of my roommates/very good friends/fellow HerCampus BC editor, Emily Boches, also as a model. We had such a great time meeting girls from BU, Northeastern, Harvard, Holy Cross, and many other schools who all had a passion for fashion and were also all beautiful in their own personalized ways. I was the shortest model by far at only 5’2” and was beyond relieved when I was handed a pair of 4 inch open-toe booties (which I was so tempted to take with me) for my look in the show. Tresemme and BareMinerals both did amazing jobs with our hair and makeup and the clothes, all from Boohoo, were beyond adorable. There were 3 “scenes” in the show: Imperial, Brooklyn Princess, and Woodlander. I had a look in the Woodlander scene and honestly would have bought my entire outfit right on the spot. The feeling was mutual for most of the models that the clothes really were edgy, interesting, and a new twist on some “old favorite” in the fashion world.

The runway walk was obviously one of the most fun aspects of the entire experience. Thank god for one of our Campus Correspondents, Katherine, for screaming and cheering for me the second I hit the runway and giving me the confidence I needed. The flashing lights of cameras, the clapping and cheers of the audience, and the spotlight hitting you on the runway all combined to a pretty amazing and exhilarating experience. At 5’2”, I’m not exactly model material and this appears to probably be one of my only experiences with walking a runway, but let me tell you, it was an awesome experience.

I must give a huge shout-out to Her Campus for their extensive organization of the event, the sponsors for their incredible support of our organization and CFW, as well as the general kindness and helpfulness of everyone on the Her Campus staff. College Fashion Week is coming to more than just Boston this year so check out their website for everything CFW-related, including photos and videos from this event and future CFW events!

Overall, it was a great experience being a model in College Fashion Week Boston. I was able to have my hair and makeup professionally done, was put in an incredibly cute outfit, and modeled for a couple hundred people. The best part about all of it: I didn’t even trip or fall! What is better than that?!
