American Horror Story Returns

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Seattle U chapter.

American Horror Story (FX) returned last Wednesday for its fourth season, Freak Show. I have been obsessed with this show and cast since I first watched it on Netflix. Murder House was pretty terrifying, Asylum blew my mind, and Coven was peculiar in the best way possible. One episode in, Freak Show has already proven to be incredibly freaky and creepy.

*WARNING SPOILER ALERT*

Your favorite cast members of the previous seasons have returned to play a new set of roles with the utmost talent. Jessica Lange plays the leader of the Freak Show Elsa Mars who collects the “freaks” and provides them a home. Sarah Paulson plays two roles (flawlessly!) as Bette and Dot, a two-headed woman who is recruited by Elsa to headline at the Freak Show. If you want to know how they pulled that off, read this article. And of course there is also Evan Peters, Frances Conroy, Emma Roberts, Kathy Bates, and many more!

What is particularly interesting about this season, based on the last remaining “Freak Show” in Florida, is that it portrays the freaks as unique and good people fighting against their oppression. The individuals who reside in the town are the real monsters because of how they treat people who look different from them. The cast taken under the wing of Elsa Mars includes the world’s smallest woman at 2’.6”, Jyoti Amge; Rose Siggins, a legless mother of two; Erika Erivn, the world’s tallest model who is also transgendered; and Mat Fraser who has phocomelia. FX has provided interviews with the Extra-Ordinary Artists that you can watch through their YouTube channel!

If the crazed murderous clown does not give you too many nightmares, keep watching because we are in for a show that I am sure will never cease to amaze.

PS, if you missed it on Wednesday you can find it on FX’s website by logging in through your cable provider. (Or sssh, Project Free TV.)
