Eve Korte is a sophomore majoring in communications and minoring in business. Over the summer, she decided to enter the CAMD Goes Global photo contest after receiving an email about it. She won First Place for a photo she took in Paris last October, based on votes from the CAMD community on the quality of the photo and the story behind it.

Why did you decide to enter the CAMD photo contest?
I like photography, and I thought I had some really special photos from my traveling. I constantly post my photos on Instagram, including a lot of old ones from my study abroad experience, and the College of Arts Media and Design has liked and reposted my photos a lot in the past. I’ve always liked taking pictures — whenever I was on a family vacation growing up, the camera was always in my hands. My grandparents are travel photojournalists, and I guess I got my interest in it from them and their photos and stories.
Where did you travel?
I did the N.U.in Program in the fall of 2013. I studied in Greece, and while I was there I traveled around Europe a bit, including to Paris, France, where my winning photo was taken.
What apps do you use besides Instagram to obtain a desired look?
Besides Instagram’s tools, I don’t use any other apps. When I upload them to my computer, I sometimes use the editing features on iPhoto.
What do you like to take photos of?
I like taking pictures of where I am and the world around me, especially if I think a certain view captures a city, a moment or a season particularly well. I feel like for all the pictures I’ve taken, I could write at least a paragraph explaining why I took the picture and what I think it captures. Whenever I look back on an old photo I can always remember vividly what I was thinking about or feeling when I took it.
What is your favorite Instagram filter?
I usually don’t use the filters, I just use the editing tools on the middle and right hand side of the app.
