The Rory Gilmore In All of Us

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Marist chapter.

Stop everything! Gilmore Girls is now on Netflix! If anyone needs me, I’ll be hibernating under my Olaf blanket watching my favorite fast-talking duo and maybe I’ll resurface sometime around January when Friends joins the party.

We all grew up with Gilmore Girls. Whether we watched initially on the WB (now the CW) or religiously followed the reruns at 5:00 p.m. on ABC Family, we all fell in love with that mother and daughter from a small town in Connecticut. Personally, I inherited my blunt sarcasm and sharp tongue from Lorelai and Rory. The more I think about it, the more I realize that my relentless academic work ethic is primarily fueled by my aspirations to achieve Rory status. But for our purposes (as strong, independent, college women) I think it’s fair to say we can all relate to Rory in one way or another…

1.    Our feelings on Saturday morning:

2.    When it’s just one of those days:

3.    When it comes time for registration and four year plans and we realize we have no idea what we’re doing with our lives:

4.    Around time for midterms and finals when all hope seems lost:

5.    During that semester-long group project when we were stuck with that terrible, awful, all-around no good, ANNOYING person:

6.    Having similar feelings at least once a day:

7.    That test sucked. That grade sucked. That party sucked. That class sucked. That guy sucked. The dining hall sucks.

8.    Basically every day of our lives:

9.    When you have two tests the next day, a research paper due at midnight, miss your dog like crazy, and just want to sleep:

10.   What freshmen 15? 11.   When your roommate comes skipping through the door on Thursday afternoon, gloating that her weekend has started because she has no classes on Fridays:

12.   When you realize that Peter Pan was onto something:

13.   Having three classes in a day:

14.   When he doesn’t answer your text or doesn’t call when he said he would:15.   When you can’t even pretend to tolerate that person that drives you bananas:

16.But hey, chin up buttercup! Put on a smile and go get some coffee! Coffee! Coffee! Coffee!
