Don’t go to Freakfest. Don’t Go…Just kidding.

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wisconsin chapter.

I love Freakfest, but it is important to realize that it isn’t a concert only for students, the whole city of Madison is there and they turn up for it game day style if you know what I mean.  While you should definitely get into the spirit of the evening, just be careful to not over do it. Cops, and creepy older men are all over State Street and those two are not a good combo.

So in order to have a kick butt time during one of the most ratchet nights that Madison has, here are a few tips.

1.     Wear something warm and comfortable, you are standing out in the cold and the street is “mosh pit” crowded. You do not want to be rubbing on some random stranger, let alone in something on the skimpier side.

2.      Make sure you stay with your crew; as someone who likes to wander off, I know from experience you don’t want to do this at Freakfest. Staying with your friends will guarantee you a fun memorable (or not so memorable) night depending on your pre Freakfest routine.

3.     Although you want to see everyone in concert, you definitely will not be able to. Pick one or two acts you would like to see and get there on the earlier side.

4.     Last, but certainly not least, enjoy yourself. Freakfest only happens once a year and it is definitely a unique experience.

So gather your friends, drink a little before the big night, and prepare yourselves not only for the crazy costumes but the crazies of Madison as too.
