Check out Conn’s newest Campus Celeb! Olivia tells us about her “amazeballs” study abroad experience and internship and gives an extremely helpful tip to de-stressing! Read more to learn about her fave places on campus, guilty pleasures, and more!

Class Year: 2015

Hometown: Yorktown Heights, NY

Major: English and Art

Extracurricular activities: Co-chair of SAC, SAC Rep for the Senior Class Council, Admissions Tour Guide, Peer Health Educators (Peeps), Dance Club, and I just joined theLook!

How was your study abroad experience?

This past spring semester I studied in Florence, Italy, at an American art school. I traveled, ate copious amounts of gelato, and made some cool art. To put it eloquently: it was amazeballs. If you can find a way to go abroad, do it!

Tell us about your CELS internship experience:

Yes, I had my CELS internship with the External Affairs sector of the Department of Cultural Affairs for the NYC government. They provide government funding for a majority of the cultural institutions/ arts non-profits in NYC. I loved it; working in the public sector was really satisfying and I hope to work in a similar field post-Conn.

Do you have any guilty pleasures? Listening to podcasts especially, You Made it Weird with Pete Holmes and The Nerdist. I also like listening to the New Yorker Fiction podcasts; it feels like I’m being read a bedtime story.

Where is your favorite place on campus? Besides the library…oh wait…(obviously still bitter). As a senior art major, I get my own studio space, so I like going there when I really need to buckle down. I also really like my room.

What are your post graduation plans?

In the near future: To get a job in an arts related field or maybe do an artist residency program.

In the distance future: Live in Paris.

What is one thing you have not checked off your Conn bucket list yet?

Since Fishbowl is no longer (RIP), doing my own interpretation of the infamous tradition.

Do you have a favorite class or professor taken at Conn?

Sophomore year I took an art class called, “Implicating the Body in Sculpture,” which was my first introduction to performance art. Janine Antoni (famous contemporary artist) taught one of our classes. It was also taught in conjunction with dance and art history classes on the same topic. It definitely satisfied the liberal arts quota for a quintessential interdisciplinary class.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I think the best way to relieve stress is by having a dance party by yourself or with friends.

How do you feel about being Campus Celebrity?

Completely flattered, thank you! :)
