5 Fun Fall-Tastic Date Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois chapter.

Leaves are changing colors and the temperature is dropping, making it perfect weather for cuddling. It can mean only one thing: fall, which is just about the best season for dating! While summer lovers claim their season is chock full of dating ideas, it is sweater weather that really gets hearts going and relationships forming. Check out these five date ideas for you and your crush or a significant other.

1. Visit an Apple Orchard

There is no other activity that encompasses fall more than a day at the apple orchard. A break from campus, apple orchards offer a unique alternative and great day date for couples because you can spend as little or as much time as you like. Be sure to visit to a Champaign favorite Curtis Orchard and Pumpkin Patch for all the apple picking, apple donuts and all the pumpkins and cider you can buy.

2. Go to a Corn Maze or on a Hay Ride

Can you name a better excuse for cuddling up to your date than a hay ride? Yeah, neither can I. Just because Halloween is over, doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy this fall favorite. So until Thanksgiving passes, spend an afternoon on a hay ride or at a corn maze, where you two lovebirds can get “lost” and find time to yourselves.

3. Stargaze

Turn a crisp fall evening into a night of cuddling under the stars. Start the date with a walk through the quad or even through the Illinois arboretum looking at the foliage. Grab a blanket and pack a picnic to then lay out under the night sky. To be even more official, try heading to the Campus Observatory on one of its open viewing nights to view the sky via telescope.

4. Cook Together

If you or your date has an apartment, be sure to cook yourselves a “dinner out.” Even a dorm kitchen will suffice in this inexpensive meal. You’ll save money and it can be much more intimate to cook dinner together. You both need to eat anyway, so why not switch up the routine? If dinner poses too great a hassle, try baking fall treats together. Find a fun pumpkin themed Pinterest recipe and get cooking.

5. Watch a Football Game

Bring out the school spirit and friendly rivalries with a date to a football game. While Illinois football may be on a losing streak, this works out in your favor with cheap tickets and ample opportunities for some fun. If it’s too cold to make it to an actual game, cuddle up on a couch together for a little Sunday night football action. We promise, your boy will be eternally grateful that you sacrificed a night to his favorite sport.

College! Can anything be more exciting! Born and raised on the southside of Chicago, I went to high school in the city so coming to the middle of the cornfields is a big change, but one I am very excited for. When I’m not busy stressing about school, I enjoy reading, having crazy adventures with friends, and just living to the fullest. (Insert one of my numerous favorite Pintrest quotes here) Fresh out of high school, I’m ready to report on all things collegiate and take you along my wild and sure to be bumpy road that is freshman year!
