5 Reasons Why Girls Need to Stop Being So Hard on Themselves

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Illinois State chapter.

As girls, we are always self-conscious about the way we look. We constantly pick out our flaws and compare ourselves to others. This needs to STOP. If you don’t love yourself, no one else will. So what if you don’t have the biggest boobs or the perfect butt, that doesn’t make you any less or any more of a person. Here are just a few reasons why girls need to stop being their own worst critic:

Nobody’s perfect: …as Hannah Montana would say. But seriously, don’t be so hard on yourself. Everyone makes mistakes; we learn from them. You were born to be real, not to be perfect.

Confidence: By judging yourself so harshly, you destroy your self-confidence. Snap out of it! Be the best you that you can be. The best accessory a girl can wear is her confidence. Trust me, the more confidence you have, the harder it is for others to judge you.

Dress your body: Most girls hate their curves when in reality having a stick figure isn’t any better! No matter what body shape, there are ways to accentuate what you do have. If you got it, flaunt it!

Be yourself: College is the one time you can start fresh; let go of all the high school drama. Don’t waste time trying to be someone you’re not. Be yourself, I promise you will find friends that love you for who you are. Don’t change so people will like you. Be yourself and the right people will love the real you.

Stick together: Don’t bully other girls; don’t talk about others behind their back, and most importantly DON’T JUDGE. It’s hard enough being a girl, which is why us girls should stick together and stop putting each other down.

Now that you have read this, it’s time to put it to use. Remember: nobody is perfect, be confident, dress to impress, always be yourself, and stick together no matter what! Contrary to popular belief, girls have it much harder than boys. So stop being your own worst critic, you are your biggest fan!
