7 Texts UF Students Send, as told by Harry Potter

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UFL chapter.

When it comes to texting, sometimes it’s hard to decode what our messages actually mean. “No” means “yes,” “I’m feeling sick” means “I’d rather not attend your cat-themed birthday party” and “K” can mean “You are the worst person to walk this earth.” Though emojis can help, we often type things that are incredibly vague and often misinterpreted. Luckily, Her Campus UFL has decoded seven common texts UF students send to guide you through your next textual encounter.

Text: “I’ll probably meet you at Grog at 9:30ish.”Meaning: “I may show up around midnight if I haven’t blacked out by then.”

Text: “I have an orgo exam tomorrow. :(”Meaning: “Shoot me now.”

Text: “I really need to study, so I’ll be at Lib West…”Meaning: “I can’t go to whatever you’re inviting me to because I should be studying. But I’ll probably just be watching Netflix.”

Text: “What’s good in G-ville?”Meaning: “Nothing’s good in Gainesville. I’m bored at home procrastinating on my stats homework. Somebody invite me to something.”

Text: “I could go for some food if you’re hungry.”Meaning: “Give me food now! T-Flats, baby!”

Text: “It’s fine.”Meaning: “Life is sucky right now. What is adulthood? What is life after college? Help!

Text: “Have you heard of The Gelato Company? We should go! :)”Meaning: “You + me + ice cream = a cute first date story to tell our future kids.”

Although we may not be the best at saying what we mean and meaning what we say, perhaps this helped you unravel some hidden messages that have been sitting in you’re inbox. It’s much easier in real life to reveal those hidden meanings. So put down the phone and ask your buddy, “What are you actually saying?” Happy texting, collegiettes!
