Campus Celebrity: Hannah Crittenden

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Leeds chapter.

This week Her Campus Leeds talked to Hannah Crittenden, President of German Society.

1. Hi Hannah (pictured on the right), tell us a bit about yourself – where are you from, what are you studying, what are your interests?

I’m from Kent and I study German and Spanish. I love culture and travelling and I go to the gym when I can be bothered (which is not often!)

2. Tell us about how you first got involved with German Society and, for those who don’t know, a bit about what it’s about.

I took on the role as the president in April after being a member during my first year. We hold a variety of different socials, including nights out, a weekly coffee and cake social (Kaffee und Kuchen) and a trip to Berlin at Christmas. We’re a small society so it’s close knit and everyone knows everyone.

3. What made you want to become President of German Society?

I really enjoyed being a member and wanted to get more involved in the organisation of the society.

4. What does the role involve? How do you get the tricky uni/social/society life balance?

I tend to oversee everything and help organise the socials. My main task recently has been organising the Berlin trip, which has been quite time consuming. I just try to plan ahead and delegate different tasks to various members of the committee.

5. What’s the next step for German Society? What exciting plans/events do you have coming up this year?

We have lots of exciting events coming up for Christmas; a trip to the German market, a Christmas Stammtisch and a joint social with the other language societies.

6. So, have you been to the German Christmas Market yet?

Not yet, but we’ve planned to go on 3rd December!

7. How can students get involved?

Everyone is welcome to come along to the socials and students can make suggestions for future events. It’s quite far away, but there is of course the opportunity to run for a position on the committee in March/ April.
