Homemade Eggnog Recipe

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Valdosta chapter.

Some of our favorite things about the holidays include being around those we love the most, getting together and enjoying our favorite traditional recipes to eat! For those of you who love eggnog as much as I do, keep reading and share! (Eggnog haters, you guys can sit this one out.)

Ingredients:

1 large grade AA egg, separated

2 teaspoons of your choice of sugar

1 ½  ounces heavy or whipped cream

1/2 teaspoons of pure almond extract

1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract

A few dashes of fresh grated cinnamon and/ or nutmeg for garnish

Optional: 1 ½ oz of Rum or Bourbon

Directions:

1.       In the bowl or a standard mixer, beat one egg yolk until it lightens in color.

2.       Add the 1/3 cup sugar and continue to beat until it is completely dissolved and the mixture becomes stiff.

3.        Add the milk, cream, and nutmeg and stir to combine.

4.       Gently add the liquor of your choice, and continue to stir.

5.       Refrigerate the mixture overnight until it’s chilled.

6.       Garnish with the grated nutmeg and cinnamon.

DISCLAIMER: This modified version uses more cream than eggs, but this recipe does contain raw eggs, so use with caution and be aware of risks of salmonella. The use of alcohol is also optional, so feel free to omit it for family events! :)
