A Definitive Ranking of F&M’s Academic Buildings

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at F and M chapter.

5. Keiper

While I’m sure there’s someone who went to F&M that has many fond memories of Keiper, current students do not. The worst part about Keiper is its tiny desks. Anyone who has ever had the misfortune of sitting in one for an eighty minute class can attest to how incredibly uncomfortable they are. Added to this, the building is old and often drafty and the second floor bathroom is supposedly haunted. Need I explain more?

4. Stager

This building may be a drastic upgrade from Keiper, but it is still not terribly comfortable. The desks are still relatively small here. That would be tolerable, except for the fact that students often have to walk up to the third floor. Stager has the steepest stairs on campus and trying to get to an 8am on time when you have to climb them is truly a challenge.

3. Kauffman/Hackman

This is technically one building, but the two sides of it have two different names. While the Kauffman portion is pretty cool, with nice desks, a brand new classroom, and a pretty nice auditorium, the Hackman half is still pretty old- fashioned. The hallways and rooms all look exactly the same and the floors aren’t marked incredibly well.

2. LSP

One of the newest, and nicest, buildings on campus. LSP has an awesome atrium where students frequently study, along with all the new science classrooms that have huge desks and lots of room. There’s a lot of cool art and projects placed in different areas in the building, so the hallways don’t have a monotonous look. Though, what really makes LSP awesome the Flavors food station on the first floor that sells an awesome PB&J!

1. Harris

The academic building that I put at the top of my list is none other than Harris. It has awesome architecture on the outside and even has its name inscribed in the stone at the front of the building. Inside, there are numerous cozy little study spots students to hide away in to complete work. There are also larger rooms that have nice leather furniture, fireplaces, and other cool decorations. The classrooms themselves are pretty nice, with a lot of variety. Harris is definitely the best academic building on campus!

I attend Franklin & Marshall College and am the campus correspondent of the Her Campus chapter here. I also play flute with the Pep Band and Symphonic Wind Ensemble. I am an editor for the Patsy Post, am involved with F&M Unleashed, a member of Mu Upsilon Sigma, and a Brother of Phi Sigma Pi, a co-ed honors fraternity.
Along with being the Her Campus Franklin and Marshall Campus Correspondent, I am also the editor-in-chief of Epilogue, F&M's literary Magazine, Staff Writer for The College Reporter, F&M's student newspaper, and a very active member of Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity. When not hard at work, you can find me writing, reading, geeking out over Disney movies with my friends, or doing art projects.
