Eco-Hunk: Rubén Morales

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UPRM chapter.

This eco friendly cutie of the week originates from the concrete jungles of the San Juan Metro. When he’s not busy educating youth on global causes, you might see him spiking some serious heat at the beach: while others, landing a smile on a complete strangers face on any given day of the week. I’m not one to vouch for prince charming, but Rubén has me thinking that maybe, just maybe, there might be a prince charming scouting the world on a white horse for each and every one of us. Whether or not that turns out be to be true, Rubén still has something to teach everyone about Disney movie magic and romance. So I dare you to take a chance and say hello, who knows, he might just charm you too.

Name: Rubén Morales

Age: 21

Hometown: Naranjito

Major: Agricultural Engineering

Relationship status: Going with the flow

Why Agricultural Engineering?

Originally, Agricultural Engineering wasn’t the plan. My goal was to be a mechanical engineer in military aviation, but life didn’t work out that way. On judgment day I got a call from the admission director with a 4-year offer from the USDA to work in a youth outreach program focused on educating our future generation in green consumerism and all related fields. Basically, I just teach kids how to make career out of playing in the mud.

What’s been your defining moment?

I don’t know If I’ve had that moment yet, or If’ I’ll ever have it.  So far though, I like what I do, and I’d like to think I’ll never have to face that age old problem where I have the money but I don’t have the energy to do anything.  I take pride in the idea that graduating isn’t to far from now, and neither are the opportunities to taste everything the world has to offer. I have a lot of passions that I’m still waiting to experiment.

On the topic of passions, what are yours?

Passions… Passions, that’s a big question. I want to say watching the sunset, but more than anything I think there’s something special about how the sun will always rise no matter what corner of the world you might find yourself in. That and culture are what really drives me. I’d hate to think I’d be stuck anywhere no matter where that might be, I want to be like the sun in that way- rising to whatever occasion life is willing to offer me.

What does love mean to you?

Love is having your girlfriend blow out the fart of the century and still thinking you’re the luckiest guy in the world, but really, WHAT IS LOVE BABY DON’T HURT ME DON’T HURT ME NO MORE

Is there a cause you feel strongly for?

I’m kind of nature freak and it really pisses me off to see how badly we’re treating our environment. Sometimes we forget the world doesn’t belong to us, we belong to the world.  We’re throwing rocks at a glass ceiling forgetting its our house.

If you could go back in time, what would you tell your younger self?

I spent so many sleepless nights contemplating the ‘what ifs’ and the ‘hows’ and the ‘whys’. Now a days I realize, its not the answer that matters but why we find ourselves asking them in the first place. You’re not always going to be 100% sure about anything, and as terrifying as that might sound, life has a way of reminding you that one way or another, if you allow yourself to be happy, happiness will always find its way to you.

Just a silly homo on the pursuit of happiness with a passion for women and bad choices with delicious endings.
