I love movies – really good movies with cathartic endings. But I’m also broke and cheap, and that is why I’ve spent hours scouring through Netflix.
I’ve watched so many movies that I think I might be diagnosable with an addiction. Even Netflix agrees – I once watched Netflix for so long that a little notice popped up informing me: “You have been watching television for twelve hours, perhaps you would like to take a break?”
This is proof that 1. Netflix can love me back, and 2. Even Netflix thinks I spend too much time with it.
So here is a list of less famous movies you might not have seen, but should. And, guess what? They all stream on Netflix.
Happy Accidents
Ruby’s (Marissa Tomei) new boyfriend (Vincent D’Onofrio) insists he’s a time traveler from the future. Is his delusion enough to break their budding romance, or will they make it? It’s a cliché rom-com that keeps you on your toes, as you’re never quite sure what’s going on in this movie or who to believe.

TiMER
This movie sadly changed my entire perspective on the role of romance in my life. If you could have a timer that told you the exact time you would meet your true love, would you want it?
“TiMER” is about a hopeless romantic with such a timer, only it hasn’t started counting yet. It has the casual laughs of a romantic comedy, but instead of posing the question of whether or not there is such thing as true love, it asks: “So what”?

Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog
No list of mine would be complete without something from Joss Whedon, who’s responsible for things like “The Avengers,” “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” and “Firefly.” This short webisode is exactly what it sounds like, only better – It’s a hilarious tragedy about a really good guy (Neil Patrick Harris) who just wants to rule the world. There’s no way I can say thoroughly explain this, so you’ll just have to watch.

The Cabin In The Woods
I should preface this by saying that I usually hate horror movies, but this one is just so clever (and funny). Reason to watch: A stoner uses his bong as a highly effective cudgel. At the same time, the movie questions the labels we assign to certain people and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) is in it, and he’s pretty.

Emma
As with horror movies, I’m not usually a fan of Jane Austen-adapted movies. But this one starring Gwyneth Paltrow is just too deliciously adorable. “Emma” is the original story that “Clueless” is based upon (I hope that’s enough said, and “Clueless” is also streaming on Netflix).
There are so many more movies worth watching on Netflix, but I tried to pick ones that even those with severe movie addictions might not have seen. Enjoy spending your college years as they were meant to be spent!
