What do you do?

I’ve acted in two plays. One last year and one freshman year. And then I also was assistant stage manager for one fall semester last year – and that was just me making sure props were set and actors were in place.

How did you become interested in theatre? Is it your major or is it a passion/hobby?

I’m an English Secondary Education major, but I did theatre all throughout high school. I wanted to keep doing it so I auditioned and they picked me. I wasn’t even expecting to be chosen.

Has it created any connections for you personally or academically? If so, how?

Definitely personally! Most of my best friends are involved in theatre and it is cool to meet people. People come up to me after the shows to say hi and I still see people around campus who to this day will say “Hey! Weren’t you in…” and talk with me about it. Academically, not really just because my major is so different from it.

What plays have you been involved with and which was your favorite?

I did “Curse of the Starving Class” my freshman year. I assistant stage managed “Twelfth Night” fall semester last year. And spring semester last year I did “Lysistrata”. “Definitely Curse” [was my favorite] because it was my first time on the college show and it was a whole new experience going from high school to college.

Do you have any tips for someone who might want to try getting involved with theatre?

If they’re trying to get involved, just get involved. Do the auditions… meet the students … meet the professors … see the shows and just keep auditioning. I’ve auditioned three times and gotten in twice and still got to be involved even though I didn’t make an audition!
