5 Fitness Blogs You Should Be Following

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Temple chapter.

Whether you’re a fitness guru or you dislike having to get off the couch, we all need some inspiration and guidance on our health from time to time. Blogs are a convenient source for both information and inspiration pertaining to all aspects of health, but with so many uncertified bloggers online, it can be hard to find one whose advice is trustworthy. We at Her Campus have narrowed down the contenders for you. This list of some of the best blogs to follow is purposefully diverse—in subject matter, audience, and style—so that you can find the fitness blog that fits your needs.

  1. Girls Gone Strong: Girls Gone Strong is a pretty general blog dedicated to educating and inspiring women of all ages to maximize the strength of their body, mind, and character. The two highly qualified women behind the blog, Molly Galbraith and Alli McKee, have not only their experience and credentials displayed on the webpage, but also their personal lifting records, to show that they’re not all talk. This website addresses all your questions and problems concerning physical fitness, from how to do a proper pull-up to tips on working out while pregnant. It even has an “Ask Ann” segment in case you have a specific question you don’t see answered. This is a great blog for anyone, regardless of fitness level
  2. Melissa Bender Fitness: Melissa Bender is a fitness blogger with a master’s degree in Occupational Therapy and a certification to teach yoga. Her blog is a personal source for exercises and techniques that she relies on, and you can see their effectiveness in the pictures on her blog. Aside from YouTube videos and pictures of workouts, she posts motivational content and advice for setting and keeping your fitness goals. She organizes her content with tabs at the top of the homepage, so you can easily find what you’re looking for. And odds are, whatever you are looking for, you’ll probably find. She covers just about every kind of workout, including yoga, cardio, and beginner workouts. This blog is perfect if you’re a fitness novice looking for some workouts to ease you into your workout routine, or if you’re looking for some intense at home workouts.
  3.  Chic Runner: Chic Runner is a blog for the runners, the would-like-to-be-runners, and the readers. Danica started Chic Runner in 2008, after graduating college with a degree in communications and having been a runner all throughout high school. Aside from keeping up with her blog, she runs marathons and coaches a high school track team. Some of her blog posts read like a diary, and she discusses how important the role is that running has in her life.  She also shares personal motivation and tips for running, like how to create a running schedule that works for you, what music she puts on her running playlist, and the perfect Christmas wish list for avid runners.
  4. Daily Cup of Yoga: Brian, the site’s founder, started doing yoga nine years ago, and explains that this blog is documenting his journey through the yoga world. Though this blog isn’t intended to provide workouts, every yoga lover should still be following it. Brian posts tips, tools, and wisdom, and talks about the best books and technology for yoga, including apps! However, if you are looking for workouts, the bottom of his page lists links to even more yoga blogs for you to check out.
  5. Do You Yoga: Do You Yoga is one of the blogs Daily Cup of Yoga lists at the bottom of his site, and it has everything you need in the yoga practice department. There are dozens of videos instructed by different people, and they incorporate topics like yoga for beginners, meditation, and strength and flexibility. The beginners’ yoga course is taught by Erin Motz, includes 30 days of videos, and can also be found on YouTube. Each video focuses on different stretches and poses for different parts of the body. Some videos are dedicated just to building up your yoga pose library. Aside from videos, this site, like Daily Cup of Yoga, also has posts about inspiration and lifestyle. Combined, these two blogs provide you with a complete yoga universe.
