When I went to Washington DC with my eighth grade class, my favorite part of the trip was meeting Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Considering at the time that middle school love was in the air, I was learning how to flirt, and with people, this is a big deal. Even then, I knew that my crush on RBG would last longer and go deeper than any eighth grade love.
Elected to the Supreme Court in 1993 under Bill Clinton, RBG has had a life dedicated to justice and the promotion of women’s rights. She co-founded the Women’s Rights Project at the ACLU and is open about her dissent in the infamous Hobby Lobby case which ruled that religious owners of corporations are not required to provide insurance for contraception.
According to her, “The decision whether or not to bear a child is central to a woman’s life, to her well-being, and dignity. When the government controls that decision for her, she is being treated as less than a full adult human responsible for her own choices.” Praise be.
Currently, her sass is best put to use as she serves as a democrat on the Supreme Court. Only three women–the other two justices are Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan–serve on the Supreme Court. At 81, RBG is the oldest of the nine justices. She’s 100 lbs and a little over five feet tall, tiny in her black robe, signature lace scruff, and glasses.
But don’t underestimate her. In an article by Washington Post, RBG said, “When I started [working out], I looked like a survivor of Auschwitz. Now I’m up to 20 push-ups.”
She’s beaten cancer twice, her best friend and biggest supporter was her late husband, Martin, or “Marty” as she calls him, and she was the first woman to be on two major law reviews, the Harvard Law Review and the Columbia Law Review.
Not to mention her adorable friendship with Obama.

RBG also nodded off at the State of the Union Address (what everyone wants to do, honestly) because her “pen was hot” the night before, and she didn’t get much sleep. She also wasn’t “100% sober.” Such a woman.
In conclusion: love Ruth Bader Ginsburg as much as me. And if you want to see her in action, make sure to follow King v. Burwell, the anti-obamacare case, as it unfolds.
