March Madness Decoded

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Wash U chapter.

March: the month of spring break, weird weather and a LOT of basketball. Here are a few things about March Madness that every sports fan would agree with:

It seems like there are two types of people when it comes to making March Madness brackets: those who can’t wait to show off their sports knowledge, and those who have absolutely no idea what they’re doing.

So you enter a pool, make a bracket, and you have no other option but to pray to the college basketball gods.

After all, you just left the chance of your winning the pool in the hands of a bunch of college kids who do weird dances.

And then the games begin. And surprise, surprise, there’s an UPSET, and a 14-seed loses to the team you had going to the Sweet Sixteen.

Unless… you just got really lucky and somehow called this. Are you Raven Baxter or something?

And so it goes, game after game, obsessively checking to see if you’re in first place or last, which changes on an hourly basis (AKA some serious mood swings).

And finally, at the end of the tournament, you get to walk away either feeling like a winner ($$$)…

Or cursing yourself for letting Iowa State go to the Final Four when they were eliminated after the first round.

No matter how it goes down, enjoy your March Madness!
