10 Tricks To Help You Get Ready Faster

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at JMU chapter.

There is no denying the fact that we all get a little lazy when it comes to getting ready just for class. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could roll out of bed and stumble into class looking like prom queens?  If only. Let’s face it, sleep is a little bit more important than looking hot everyday, especially towards the end of spring semester. Although it is quite impossible (for a normal girl) to be on her “A-game” every day, it is possible to at least look like getting ready took a little more time than it actually did. Follow some of these quick tricks and no one will ever know you woke up 15 minutes ago.

  1. Stick to the bare essentials. As a girl, I know all the makeup in the world seems necessary, but no one else knows the difference between a perfectly covered contoured face and a natural face with some mascara and eyeliner on the bottom. Don’t think too hard, because odds are, no one else has any idea. If you absolutely must get crazy even when you’re late, throw on some bright lipstick. This adds color to the face and somehow makes the rest of your outfit seem a lot snazzier than it is.

  2. The side-braid is code for “I am lazy” in girl language, but to the rest of the world, it looks much better than a messy bun. This quick hairstyle creates an “I-put-effort-into-my appearance-this-morning” illusion.

  3. We all have bad hair days, so if you’re having one of those because, let’s say, it hasn’t been washed in a few days, (no shame) tie it into a tight ponytail or bun. You’ll basically be a classy Kim Kardashian.

  4. Jewelry adds a nice touch to any outfit. You could be wearing the flannel you slept in last night and some black leggings, but if accompanied by some simple diamond studs or a necklace and a few rings, it’ll appear as if you planned your outfit. No one will ever know that half of it may or may not have been found on your bathroom floor just 5 minutes before you walked out the door.

  5. Believe it or not, there’s no harm in putting on a jacket and zipping it up as if you’re wearing real clothes underneath. Psht, you’re not lazy at all. You are one driven woman if you have the time to put on a shirt AND a jacket before class. Also, you’ll be comfortable all day. Who needs real clothes, anyway?

  6. Sometimes, the comfort look can be cute. Obviously nothing could beat wearing sweatpants and a big t-shirt to class when you’re feeling sleep-deprived and drained, but you can dress the part without looking it by wearing workout clothes and running shoes. It’s clear that you didn’t put too much effort into getting ready, but hey, at least strangers think you’re about to go to the gym.

  7. Some girls can rock the “bum” look, so if you’re one of these lucky souls, dress the part and rock it—but don’t forget to wear your glasses, because they’re basically the icing on the homeless-person-style cake. And… they hide your makeup-less eyes and dark circles. Look like a nerd and be proud of it, girlfriend.

  8. No one likes pants. It’s just a fact. Here’s your solution—don’t wear real pants! Leggings aren’t frowned upon, and they will do. Not a soul will think twice.

  9. Never show others how you’re actually feeling the day after an all-nighter. I don’t know if it’s just me, but when I see a girl dressed in full bum attire and yawning and complaining, it becomes obvious that she didn’t even attempt to look like a human. In my opinion, this isn’t an attractive sight. Instead, smile your little heart out and show confidence. There is a huge difference between a lazily dressed, happy girl with confidence, and a sleep-deprived, negativity-loving, zombie-like creature.

  10. ALWAYS wash your face. Whether you quickly splash some sink water over your eyes or engage in a 7 step face-wash routine, this step is a key to a happy day. Rinsing your face will do a world of good for you when you’re exhausted. This will wake you up, make you feel more alive, and serve as a reminder that you’re actually kind-of hygienic for a college student. You go girl, rise above the rest of the lazies with that freshly washed face of yours.
