International Student Spotlight: Andrea Rojas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UCLA chapter.

Meet Andrea Rojas, a third year exchange student from Santiago de Chile. Her fun and outgoing personality have allowed her to make many friends with all kinds of people, as well as explore much of what Los Angeles has to offer during her year abroad. Her story is even more inspiring when you find out that she manages to study elecrical engineering on top of it all!

What made you decide to study abroad? And why did you choose to come to LA?

Ever since I can remember,  I’ve wanted to study abroad. I love Chile, but I was enchanted with the idea of living outside my country and getting to know different cultures, so why not? Although it’s nice, I didn’t choose LA for the weather. I chose it because it is a huge city full of surprises and fun things to do (always). Also UCLA is here and it is a great university.

What is the biggest difference between Chile and America?

I can’t find THE biggest difference between Chile and the US because there are many. One thing I love about here, and we don’t have in Chile, is that you have the chance of doing everything. You can try every existing sport or eat all possible types of food. However, Chilean sandwiches are still better.

What has been your favorite memory at UCLA so far?

The people I’ve met, the amazing experiences I’ve had with them, and everything they’ve taught me.

What is the one thing you miss about home the most?

My cat, my car, my family, and bread with avocado. (I’m sorry it was more than one but they are all on the same level).

Is there anything you still want to do or see in America before you go back to Chile?

I want to do as much as possible, but definitely go to the Grand Canyon.

Do you have any advice for other international students who are thinking about studying abroad at UCLA?

For the ones that are thinking about studying here, don’t overthink it; just do it. For the ones that are coming, be spontaneous and don’t waste any minute while you’re here.
