What is your current job title?

Student Manager

How did you get this job?

I started at the Ridgeway Commons Dining Hall and requested to be transferred to Retail. Got a job at Zoe’s, my supervisor suggested that I apply for the open Student Manager position and I got it.

How long have you worked at Zoe’s?

Two years now.

How is this job setting you up for your future and/or your specific career field?

This student manager position provides me with a lot of professional experience working within a big corporation and continues to build upon universally useful professionalism and communication skills.

Some things students don’t know about Zoe’s:Those employed at Zoe’s are students too! Sometimes people forget that. We’ve also had four different managers within this past year and that can make things more stressful and disorganized than we would like. Luckily we’ve got two new supervisors who have been making changes for the better. They’ve been improving internal communication, our location efficiency and putting a big focus on customer service.

Most popular Bagel/Schmear order?

Blueberry bagel with strawberry schmear, everything bagel with sun-dried tomato schmear and sourdough smoked salmon are probably the most popular combination.

What kind of problems do you have to deal with?

I am always called into work, even when I request the day off.

What is your student customer pet peeve?

When students ask if their bagel is ready only two minutes after they ordered. Or when they stand over the pickup counter and watch while we make their bagel or coffee.

What the best thing about working at Zoe’s?

My coworkers are amazing and I have met some of my best friends through working at Zoe’s.

Perks of being a Zoe’s Student Manager?

I get a 125 meal plan. That’s pretty cool. But the aux points are what really matter. (Retail food for life)

Has your perception of Zoe’s changed since working there?

I had only gone to Zoe’s a couple of times before I started working there but I now spend so much time there. I notice the smell of Zoe’s now though.

Is there anything you refuse to eat there?

I don’t really refuse to eat anything. I attempt to try all of the food so I can give customers suggestions and/or my opinion on the different food items. I do get tired of bagels, for about a week and then I’m back to eating them. Hello, my name is Amanda and I’m a bagel addict.

Do you often have to replace the short golf pencils?

We probably sharpen the pencils once a week. I’m not actually sure how many pencils we end up losing or how often we replace them. They just always appear back in the basket.

Is it [zohs] or [zohees]?

I call it [zohees], employees are pretty split between the two. Technically it is pronounced [zohs] named after one of Western’s old librarians.
